During this phase I made and installed steel racks in the engine compartment and the trunk for twelve lead acid batteries. I chose conventional lead acid batteries because of their low cost and availability. The batteries give the vehicle a range of about 30 miles, which is enough for most of my local travel. Next, I installed the electric motor and the circuitry required for voltage conversion, charging, and speed control.
